Orange Shirt Day at Carbonear Collegiate - Thursday, September 28
Orange Shirt Day Events
We would like to inform you about the events planned for Orange Shirt Day, which is scheduled for this Thursday, September 28, 2023. This day holds significant importance as we remember and honor the experiences of Indigenous people, particularly those who attended Indian Residential Schools.
Planned events for the day:
Morning Announcements: To kick off Orange Shirt Day, during the morning announcements, there will be a reading of the Indigenous land acknowledgment. This acknowledgment is an important way to recognize and respect the land we occupy, which has been home to Indigenous peoples for generations.
Wearing Orange Shirts: All staff and students are encouraged to wear their orange shirts on Thursday. The orange shirt serves as a symbol of solidarity and remembrance for the survivors of Indian Residential Schools. Please join us in wearing orange to show your support and commitment to reconciliation.
Lesson Plan and Presentation: This presentation will provide information and insights into Indian Residential Schools. It includes videos and extension activities to engage students in a meaningful discussion about this critical aspect of our history. This year we are focusing on the theme of Resilience.
