School closure update for Sep 29 and Oct 2

  Carbonear Collegiate will be closed for students on Friday, September 29 for a Teacher Professional Learning Day.  We will be learning more about formative assessment practices as part of our school development initiative.  We are happy to have NLESD program specialists to learn and work with us on our journey. Carbonear Collegiate will be closed on Monday, October 02 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  This is a national statutory holiday, however, September 30 is the official day.

  Orange Shirt Day Events We would like to inform you about the events planned for Orange Shirt Day, which is scheduled for this Thursday, September 28, 2023.  This day holds significant importance as we remember and honor the experiences of Indigenous people, particularly those who attended Indian Residential Schools. Planned events for the day: Morning Announcements: To kick off Orange Shirt Day, during the morning announcements, there will be a reading of the Indigenous land acknowledgment. This acknowledgment is an important way to recognize and respect the land we occupy, which has been home to Indigenous peoples for generations. Wearing Orange Shirts: All staff and students are encouraged to wear their orange shirts on Thursday. The orange shirt serves as a symbol of solidarity and remembrance for the survivors of Indian Residential Schools.   Carbonear Collegiate Terry Fox Walk and Family Meet the Teacher Event Date: Wednesday, September 27, 2023 Time: 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM Parking:           Soccer Field / Track area Parking Lot (before 3:15 PM) On Wednesday, September 27, Carbonear Collegiate will be participating in the annual Terry Fox Walk in support of Cancer Research.  This year we are inviting family members to participate with our students.  After the walk we will then invite parents back to the school for refreshments and have our Meet the Teacher event. Schedule: 2:00 PM           Terry Fox Walk - Carbonear Recreation Complex - Track 2:45 PM           Students and Family Members return to the school. Doorways Program Information

DoorWays Counselling Services, Mental Health and Addictions Services DoorWays Counselling Services is a program of NL Health Service’s Mental Health and Addictions Services that provides rapid access to counselling services ‘one session at a time’ and is offered throughout Rural Avalon. Persons interested in receiving mental health and addictions services can now access support without an appointment or referral, and perhaps best of all – without a wait time! DoorWays services at the school will be provided by Ms. Wendy Cranford, Mental Health Counsellor and Ms. Lori Mercer, Addictions Counsellor on a bi-weekly basis starting on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023 .
